China flew a record six fighter jets to Taiwan

Taipei: China flew a record six fighter jets over Taiwan on Tuesday, the country's defense ministry said. The fleet sent by Beijing to the island on a daily basis last year is by far the largest fleet ever.

Taiwan's air force has deployed a combat air patrol force in response and is keeping a close eye on the southwestern part of the island with the help of its air defense system, a national defense ministry spokesman said.

China has shown this strength when the leaders of the Group of Seven issued a statement on Sunday calling for a peaceful resolution of the Taiwan Strait issue and emphasizing the importance of peace and stability. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Tuesday that the G-7 was deliberately interfering in China's internal affairs. China is committed to defending its national sovereignty, security and its interests, he said.

Taiwan and China were divided in the wake of the 19th Civil War, but China considers Taiwan a part of it. While Taiwan has been self-governing since then. With Tsai Ying-wen as president in 2014, China has stepped up diplomatic and military pressure on the Chinese government, which has refused to recognize Taiwan as part of China. Even Taiwan's large population does not want a political alliance with China. It does not want a country like Hong Kong to join China like two systems. China has been flying its fighter jets on the Taiwan side every day since last year, demonstrating that it is protecting its national sovereignty. Earlier in March, China sent three fighter jets to Taiwan.
