WHO warns against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of corona

Delhi, May 11, 2021, Tuesday

The World Health Organization has warned against the use of the drug ivermectin to treat patients with corona.

WHO chief scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan said in a tweet that it was important to know the safety of any drug and its effect on the patient before using it.

Dr. Swaminathan shared an old statement from a German healthcare giant with a tweet, saying that scientists were studying research to find out the safety and effects of ivermectin in the treatment of corona.

This is the second time in the last two months that the WHO has issued a warning against the use of ivermectin. A day earlier, the Goa government had allowed people over the age of 18 to use ivermectin to treat corona, the Goa health minister said. Experts in the UK, Italy and Spain believe that the use of ivermectin can help reduce mortality and help patients recover faster.

Following the WHO's tweet, the use of ivermectin is now being discussed again, as the drug is widely used in India.
