Social Media Guidelines: The government said- WhatsApp is trying to avoid responsibility

New Delhi, 26 May 2021 Wednesday

The Ministry of Electronics and IT on Wednesday said that while the Government of India respects the right to privacy, the ministry said that showing the origin of any message from WhatsApp does not mean infringing on the right to privacy.

The ministry said the need arose only in cases where the spread of a particular message had to be stopped, investigated, or punished for serious offenses such as explicit sexual material.

The IT ministry also said that on the one hand, WhatsApp wants to implement its own separate privacy policy. Where it will share the data of all its users with its parent company Facebook. WhatsApp, on the other hand, makes every effort to refuse to implement the central guidelines needed to maintain law and order and curb fake news.

The ministry said all activities taking place in India should be done in accordance with the law here. WhatsApp's refusal to comply with the guidelines is a clear violation of the measure, the purpose of which can certainly not be doubted.
