Self-reliant India: Important decision of Modi cabinet regarding battery storage, now production will start in the country

- Cabinet approves Rs 18,100 crore production link incentive

New delhi date. 12 May 2021, Wednesday

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a Rs 18,100 crore production link incentive to increase production of battery storage. This is expected to increase the generation of 50,000 MW in India. Announcing the decision, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that a cabinet meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting has taken an important decision towards making the country a self-reliant India.

The Union Minister said that battery storage is very important. Today we import Rs 20,000 crore worth of battery storage equipment. The new PLI announced today will reduce these imports. At the same time, production in India will also increase.

Javadekar said the promotion of imported electric vehicles will increase. Long-lasting and fast-charging batteries are needed these days. Apart from this, many solar power plants have been set up in India. Which is generating about 1,36,000 gawatts of solar power. We can use this electricity only during the day but not at night. If there is battery storage in this grid sometimes balancing work will come in handy.

Apart from this battery storage will prove very useful in shipping and railways. Battery storage will also be an alternative to diesel generators.
