Sadiq Khan, a Pakistani national, has been elected mayor of London for the second time in a row

Sadiq Khan, a Pakistani national and Labor leader, has been re-elected mayor of London.

With the Labor Party's disappointing performance in Thursday's local elections, the outcome of this one election is reassuring for the party. In 2016, Sadiq Khan became London's first mayor. He was the first Muslim mayor of a major Western city.

Sadiq Khan got 55.2 per cent votes in the second round of elections, while his rival and Conservative Shaun Bailey got 44.8 per cent votes. The turnout was 42 per cent for this election. People have put their trust in me to lead the greatest city in the world.

"My second term will focus on job creation and bridging the gap between different communities," he said.

Sadiq Khan has also been critical of Britain's decision to secede from the European Union. He also slammed the immediate Trump administration's ban on people from Muslim countries coming to the United States.

Sadiq Khan's family moved to London in 1970 and earned a law degree from the University of North London.
