North Korea: CD seller of South Korean films shot dead, family can't cry

New Delhi, May 30, 2021

North Korea is under the dictatorship of Kim Jong Un. People have to lose their lives even in small things.

However, many things in this country do not come up because there is strict censorship, including a ban on watching foreign films. North Korea has tightened its laws. Recently, a man selling CDs of South Korean films was shot dead. Debt was punished.

A CD of South Korean films was seized from a man named Lee, along with songs and music videos. The man was sentenced to death for selling the CD and committing treason. He was shot by 12 soldiers. He could not even cry. If he had cried, he would have been severely punished on the ground that he had shown sympathy for the traitor.

When he died, his body was dumped in a truck and taken to a prison where political prisoners are kept.

North Korea has tightened its laws in December 2020. It is now a crime to watch South Korean films or TV shows here. If caught, it carries the death penalty or life imprisonment. Changes in the rules have frightened the country's people. That is, any small thing will be punished by death.
