Non-Muslim refugees from these countries, including Pakistan, will get citizenship, MHA seeks application

The Union Home Ministry (MHA) has taken a very important decision to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Center has sought applications from non-Muslim refugees living in 13 districts of the country for Indian citizenship.

The refugees are seeking refuge in 13 districts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Punjab. Their religions are Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist. On Friday, he was asked to apply for Indian citizenship. The Union Home Ministry issued a notice of such intent for immediate implementation of the order in accordance with the rules made under the Citizenship Act 1955 and 2009. However, the government has not yet drafted rules under the revised Citizenship Act (CAA) applicable in 2019.

The CAA was taken by storm

When the CAA came into force in 2019, there were widespread protests in various parts of the country, including riots in Delhi in early 2020.

Which refugees will get citizenship?

Under the Citizenship Research Act (CAA), citizenship will be granted to non-Muslim minorities who were persecuted in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan who arrived in India by December 31, 2014.
