Mamata Banerjee will contest the by-election from Bhawanipur seat to continue as Chief Minister

Calcutta, May 21, 2021, Friday

In the recent assembly elections in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee gave her party TMC a landslide victory over the BJP but she herself lost the prestigious battle for the Nandigram seat.

He was defeated by Shuvendu Adhikari, a one-time TMC leader and now a BJP defender. However, Mamata Banerjee has now become the Chief Minister of West Bengal and will have to win a by-election to remain the Chief Minister. Mamata Banerjee has decided to contest from her traditional seat Bhawanipur.

TMC leader Shobhandev Chatterjee, who won as an MLA here, has also resigned. Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee said his resignation had been accepted. "I am leaving the assembly so that Mamata Banerjee can win the elections fairly and continue as chief minister," Chatterjee said.

The party, on the other hand, can fight Shobhandev from the Khardah seat. TMC candidate Kajal Sinha won the seat but died earlier due to corona. A by-election is also to be held on this seat.
