Petrol and diesel prices have already crossed Rs 100 in some cities in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Earlier, Bhopal was the first capital where petrol price crossed Rs 100. Now the price of petrol has gone up to over Rs 100 in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.

Petrol and diesel prices have been hiked for the 14th time this month. Petrol and diesel prices were not hiked for 18 days following the assembly elections in five states, including West Bengal. Petrol and diesel prices have been hiked since May 4 after an 18-day hiatus.

Petrol price has been hiked by Rs 3.28 per liter and diesel by Rs 3.88 per liter since May 4. The central government levies excise duty of Rs 32.90 per liter on petrol and Rs 31.80 per liter on diesel. In addition, VAT is levied on petrol and diesel at different rates by the state governments.
