Facebook ready to comply with the government's new rules, the statement said

New Delhi, May 25, 2021, Tuesday

As the deadline to implement the new digital rules created by the government expires today, Facebook has now shown readiness to implement these rules.

While the government has already warned that a company that does not implement the new rules cannot do business in India, a Facebook spokesperson said the company is ready to comply with the government's new rules to regulate content but some issues need to be discussed. We want to talk more with the government on this issue. As per the rules of IT, we are working to enforce the rules for Facebook management. We are committed to allowing people to express their views freely and securely on Facebook.

According to government sources, the new rules have not yet been followed by Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Facebook, meanwhile, made the statement today but has not yet commented on the issue via Twitter and Instagram.

The new rules were announced by the government on February 25. Companies were given three months to comply. Companies can be blocked if they do not follow the rules.

According to the new rule, social media companies have to appoint a regulatory officer in India and provide information on their name, address and how to contact in India. People's grievances need to be addressed as well as a system to monitor catastrophic content.

Under the new rules, a committee of representatives from the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs as well as the Ministry of IT, Information and Broadcasting will be formed. Which can instruct social media companies to block any content on social media.
