Did the Indian government send a plane with extradition documents to pick up Mehul Choksi?

New Delhi, May 30, 2021

The Indian government has stepped up its efforts to bring back Mehul Choksi, a fugitive accused in the Punjab National Bank loan scam.

According to the news agency, Indian officials told Dominica in a back channel conversation that Mehul Choksi is a fugitive Indian national and Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against him. He should be handed over to India.

Earlier, Antigua and Barbuda PM Gaston Brown said on a radio show that India had sent a private plane to Dominica with extradition documents. He also said that the Dominican Republic should send Choksi back to India as soon as possible. No comment in support.

On the other hand, according to media reports from Antigua, a private plane has landed in Dominica and this has led to speculation about the repatriation of Choksi.

The plane, which landed in Dominica, took off from Delhi on May 28 and reached Dominica at 1 pm today.

Earlier, Choksi alleged that police officers who looked like Indians had abducted her from Antigua and taken her to Dominica.

Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi have been accused of carrying out a Rs 13,500 crore loan scam with the Punjab National Bank. Choksi fled India to Antigua in 2018. The scam was later exposed.
