Corona to become 'game in changer' for child protection 'Made in India' nasal vaccine - WHO's chief scientist

New Delhi, 23 May 2021 Sunday

While the second wave of Corona is currently underway in India, a third wave is also being feared. It is being claimed that the next wave of corona may target children, and the potential third wave of corona may also increase the transmission of corona in children. But the news of a relief against this has also come out that India's indigenous nasal vaccine, which is given by injecting nasal drops, can give good results in protecting children from corona infection. This claim has been made by Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist Scientist of WHO.

Soumya Swaminath said more and more school teachers need to be vaccinated. He added that children should be sent to school only when the risk of community transmission is low. Swaminathan further said, “The nasal vaccine made in India can prove to be a game changer for children. It will be easy to apply to children. Also, it will boost the immune system in the respiratory tract.

There is no vaccine for children under the age of 18 in the country and in many states even people above the age of 18 are not being vaccinated due to lack of vaccine. Bharat Biotech is going to start trial of vaccines for children from June 1.

Soumya Swaminathan claims that India's indigenous nasal vaccine could be a game changer for children. This nasal vaccine is simpler and more effective than injections. Dr. Swaminathan said that school teachers also need to be vaccinated as much as possible.
