Corona strikes: 230 million people pushed below poverty line, urban poverty rises by 20%

In India, Corona's death is driving people to the brink of death and at the same time financially destitute.

A large number of people are being pushed back below the poverty line. According to a report by Azim Premji University, Corona has hit the poor the hardest. The minimum wage rate is Rs 375.

According to the report, the poverty rate in urban areas has risen by 20 per cent and in rural areas by 15 per cent. About 100 million people lost their jobs during the two months of the lockdown, April and May, while 1.5 million people were unemployed all year.

The biggest impact of Kovid has been on the youth. In the 15-24 age group, 33 per cent did not find employment till December, while 6 per cent between the ages of 25 and 44 lost their jobs.
