Central Government orders Gujarat to provide 20 tons of oxygen to Punjab

New Delhi, May 12, 2021, Wednesday

The Center has directed Gujarat to provide 20 metric tonnes of oxygen to Punjab, which is in dire straits due to corona transition.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had earlier told the Center that the state was short of oxygen for the treatment of corona patients in Punjab. Since then, the central government has ordered Punjab to provide an additional 20 tonnes of oxygen. This oxygen road will be taken to Punjab by tankers, which will take two and a half days.

"Currently, we need five tankers for 20 metric tonnes of oxygen from Gujarat but we have got only two tankers," said Rahul Tiwari, in-charge of Punjab Covid Control Room. Thus we can only get a quota of two days and not carry another oxygen for three days.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder had said that the state was in dire need of oxygen supply at present and the lives of patients could be in danger if not enough oxygen was available.
