On the one hand, while the whole world is engaged in fighting the Koro epidemic, military rule in India's neighbor Myanmar is becoming increasingly authoritarian. Myanmar's army chief overthrew the country's elected government on February 1, 2021, and hundreds have died in Myanmar since then. The military has taken thousands of people into custody and many more are unaccounted for.

Many have crossed the border into the Indian state of Mizoram to escape the impending military rule in Myanmar. The Mizoram government has also given temporary shelter to these people and made arrangements for their accommodation. However, in an official statement from the Indian government, the government did not consider him a refugee.

Myanmar's military government wrote a letter to the state of Mizoram last month demanding the repatriation of Myanmar nationals to India. The letter also referred to the good relations between India and Myanmar. According to Stephen Dujarric, a spokesman for UN President Antonio Guterres, the number of Myanmar nationals coming to India is around 4,000 to 6,000. About 1,700 people arrived in Thailand as refugees between March and April.

The Indian government has called for an end to the violence in Myanmar. India has urged the current Myanmar government to immediately release all protesters and leaders detained. India wants a peaceful solution to the current situation. India also welcomed the initiatives taken by ASEAN countries. Notably, Asia has requested a ceasefire in Myanmar.
