The US Navy had infiltrated Indian waters. India then lodged a complaint with the US. After the complaint, the US said in a nutshell that we did not break India's rules, but entered the waters in accordance with international law.
The US Navy entered Indian waters. The US Navy conducted a military exercise near Lakshadweep without India's permission. India also complained to the US, expressing displeasure over the issue.
However, the US said in a nutshell, "We have not broken any of India's rules." We entered the waters in accordance with international law. We do not need India's permission to enter the area.
Navy spokesman John Kirby said the US Navy ship did not need anyone's permission to enter the area under international free navigation. America will maintain the tradition of free navigation. The United States has a responsibility to enforce the law of the sea and to uphold its right to freedom under international law.
It may be recalled that India's exclusive right to territorial waters was recognized by the 19th United Nations. Under Indian law, a foreign ship cannot enter India's exclusive economic zone without permission, and if it does, India can take action against the foreign ship.
