Russia's ambassador to the United States John Sullivan will travel to the United States to discuss Russia-US tensions

Moscow, 20 April 2021 Tuesday

Concerned about the ongoing tensions between Russia and the United States, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan has decided to travel to the United States to discuss trade sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and the current tensions with the Washington-based Biden administration.

So the Kremlin, on the other hand, has also made it clear that Russia has not ordered Ambassador Sullivan to consider the discussion, it can only recommend to alleviate the current situation.

Sullivan said in a statement that he was returning to the United States this week to ease tensions between the United States and Russia and to discuss with members of the Biden administration, and that he would return later this week.

"I urge my new colleagues in the Washington-based Biden administration to have a direct discussion on the current bilateral relations between Russia and the United States," he said. Another reason is that I haven't seen my family well in over a year, so I want to visit my home during this trip.

Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the ambassador's return was a sign of ongoing tensions between the United States and Russia, and that Russia had not set a deadline for sending its ambassador to the United States, Anatole Antonov.
