Patients will die due to lack of ICU beds, doctors, nurses: experts

Pune, Dt

Corona epidemic situation in India will get worse in the coming days, said renowned surgeon Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty said India would still need five lakh ICU beds, two lakh nurses and 1.5 lakh doctors.

There are currently 5,000 to 80,000 ICU beds in India and almost all of these beds are full. At a time when the second wave of corona epidemics has not yet reached its peak, more than 2.7 million cases are being reported daily in India. Some experts say the daily corona cases in the country will be more than five lakh. Currently most of the media attention is focused on the lack of oxygen for patients in the ICU. But news of patients dying in the ICU due to a lack of nurses and doctors is expected in the coming weeks.

The founder and chairman of Narayana Health, Dr. "It will happen and I have no doubt about it," Shetty said. At present, 1.5 to 2 million people in the country are suffering from corona every day and five per cent of them need ICU beds. A patient stays in ICU for an average of 10 days. So you can imagine the horror of the situation. To avoid this situation we will have to raise more than five lakh ICU beds in the next few weeks.
