New delhi date. 6 April 2021, Tuesday

Until now, missiles were developed for the Indian Army alone by the Defense Research and Development Organization, an organization of the Ministry of Defense.

Now the DRDO has taken an important decision to involve the private sector in missile system development under the Development cum Production Partner Program. Private companies will also be allowed to produce missiles.

According to a media report, DRDO officials said that private sector companies have also shown enthusiasm for missile production. Companies are coming forward for the Surface-to-Surface Air Missile System program project.

The government is making efforts to make military equipment and weapons available in India under the Make in India policy and as part of this, DRDO is now ready to partner with the private sector. The DRDO has also approved the development of a missile system in collaboration with the private sector.

Currently, some companies are working in the field of defense. An example is a Howitzer gun made in India. Apart from this some weapons and vehicles are also being manufactured by private companies.
