Government's consideration of removing GST on corona vaccine

The government is considering waiving the GST on the vaccine for corona. If this becomes possible, the cost of vaccine doses in private hospitals will be reduced. The government is considering removing the GST on vaccines so that the general public does not have to bear the brunt of the dose.

It may be mentioned that the central government has waived the import duty on raw materials used in the manufacture of vaccines. In the same vein, the government is also considering removing the five per cent GST on corona vaccine.

However, this requires the approval of the GAT Council. However, no member of the GST Council seems to be opposed to the proposal to remove GST on vaccines.

An application was also made to the Supreme Court to remove GST on drugs like Ramdasivir, Tosilizumab, Favipiravir used in the treatment of corona. In addition, GST on some medical devices has also been demanded to be removed.
