Former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee's death, Jung was fighting against Corona

Corona's death toll in the country is steadily rising. Former Attorney General of India Soli Sorabjee has died due to corona. Senior lawyer, former Attorney General and Padma Vibhushan Soli Sorabjee breathed his last on Friday morning. He was the country's attorney general from 1989 to 1990 and then from 1998 to 2004.

Soli Sorabjee was born in 1930 in Bombay. He had been practicing in the Bombay High Court since 1953. In 1971, he became a senior councilor of the Supreme Court. He has twice been the Attorney General of India.

He was recognized as the country’s senior human rights lawyer. In 1997, he was sent to Nigeria as a special envoy to the United Nations to provide information on the human rights situation there. He was then a member and later chairman of the UN-Sub Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights from 1998 to 2004.

He was a big supporter of freedom of expression. In the Supreme Court of India, he defended the freedom of the press on a number of historic occasions and was instrumental in lifting censorship orders and restrictions on publications. In March 2002, he was awarded the second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan.
