Centre's ban on export of remedivir, a drug effective against coronavirus


Seven companies in India produce 38.80 lakh medicines a month

Manufacturing companies must display details of the quantity available on the website

New Delhi: The Union government on Sunday banned the export of anti-viral drug remedivivir. This drug is effective against corona. Therefore, its demand is increasing. In addition, a big politics has started in Gujarat about providing injection of remedivir. That is why the central government has stopped exports before the controversy over the quantity of remedicavier escalates. So that its quantity can be used as required in India.

Exports of remedivir and its active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) are also banned. So that the medicine that will be manufactured in India will remain in India and will be available to the needy patients. The drug companies that manufacture this drug in India, everyone has to show the details of its quantity on the website.

Companies will also have to specify how much stock this drug has and which stockist-distributor it has. In the case of Corona, doctors advise a patient whose oxygen level has dropped dramatically to inject remedivivir. So its demand increased. Cases of drug trafficking and illegal sale have also come up against the increased demand.

The Pune Crime Branch arrested a man for illegal sale of the drug. The drug is developed by the American Glid Science Company. It has licensed seven companies in India to manufacture injection of remedivir. The seven companies together can produce 38.80 lakh dose-injections per month.

Three companies in Vadodara have the capacity to make 10000 injections daily

If the government wants, it can alleviate the shortage of injections by giving companies licenses for home use.

Vadodara: The government has banned the export of remedivir injection. As a result, 3 companies based in Vadodara can no longer export these injections to other countries.

In Gujarat, there are some companies from Vadodara, Vapi, Daman which produce these injections but they have only got the license for export. These companies produce thousands of injections daily.

There are three such companies in Vadodara and their capacity is to make 10000 injections per day based on the supply of raw material at present. But if the supply of raw material increases, this capacity can be increased to 20,000. If the government wants, now these injections can be produced for Gujarat as well. However, these companies have already sought licenses for the use of injections at home.
