Police registered a case against five others, including the promoter of HDIL, following the fire at Bhandup Mall

Police have registered a case against HDIL promoter Rakesh Wadhwan and five others for murder with criminal intent after a fire broke out at Bhandup Mall in Mumbai.

The fire broke out at Dreams Mall in Bhandup early on Friday morning and spread to Sunrise Hospital, which has the Covid-19 facility center on the third floor of the mall, although the fire was brought under control after 40 hours of hard work by the fire department.

Bhandup police on Friday night registered a case against six people, including HDIL promoter Rakesh Wadhwan and his son Sarang, who are directors of Dreams Mall, for alleged involvement in the incident.

Rakesh Wadhwan, Nikita Amit Singh Trehan, Sarang Wadhwan and Deepak Shirke are the directors of the mall, while Amit Singh Trehan and Sweety Jain, Nikita Trehan are also the directors of the hospital.

Officials said the investigation found security flaws in which even fire safety equipment was not checked regularly.

Police have registered a case of murder with criminal intent against these people. A case has been registered against Wadhwan in the PMC Bank scam.

The 4-storey mall has 1,108 shops, 40 per cent of which were closed. Sun Rise Hospital was converted into a covid care center in January.
