Not a single BJP chief minister has completed five years in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, March 8, 2021, Tuesday

BJP-ruled Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has resigned. The Chamoli area has been forced to resign a month and a half after a natural disaster of landslides. It is believed that even the MLAs and the people of Uttarakhand were dissatisfied with Rawat's leadership. Rumors of Rawat's resignation have been circulating since BJP central observers Raman Singh and Dushyant Kumar Gautam visited Uttarakhand recently.

However, with Rawat's resignation, it has once again proved that not a single Chief Minister has completed five years in office during the BJP rule in Uttarakhand. However, Rawat, who is currently resigning, holds the record for being the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for a maximum of three years. In Uttarakhand, not a single Chief Minister has completed his term except ND Tiwari of the Congress until a majority government was formed. In Uttarakhand, which broke away from Uttar Pradesh in 2000, BJP's Nityanand Swamy became the chief minister, but was replaced by Bhagat Singh Koshiyari in just one year.

After becoming a separate Uttarakhand, the first assembly elections were held in 2008 in which the BJP was defeated. Narayan Dutt Tiwari of the Congress had completed five years as Chief Minister. Bhuvanchandra Khanduri was handed over the reins of Uttarakhand when the BJP returned to power in the 2009 assembly elections. In 2009, Khanduri was replaced by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank as Chief Minister. Two years later Pokhriyal was moved and again the cushion was handed over to the farmer.

The Congress won the 2012 assembly elections, but in 2012, when the BJP got another chance, Trivendra Singh Rawat was given the chief ministership. Now he too has resigned from the post. Thus, not a single BJP chief minister has completed five years in Uttarakhand. They are replaced midway or before the election which also reflects the impact of Uttarakhand politics.
