Devotees may be saddened by the decision taken by the administration of Kashi Vishwanath temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, for the festival of Mahashivaratri. Devotees cannot touch Baba's Shivling on this day. The temple administration has taken this decision to avoid the crowd and rush situation in the temple. However, devotees will be able to anoint Baba Vishwanath. Arrangements have been made for her outside the sanctuary.

It is to be mentioned that, in the town of Lord Bholanath, two festivals are celebrated with much fanfare. The first is the full Shravan month and the second is the marriage ceremony of mother Parvati and Lord Shiva i.e. Mahashivaratri.

Varanasi Commissioner Deepak Agarwal said entry to the sanctum sanctorum of the Kashi Vishwanath temple has been banned on the day of Mahashivaratri to avoid congestion and stampede. A carpet will be arranged in the premises for the devotees to sit in the Aarti on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. Apart from that, entry will be made through all the four entrances of the temple and the guideline of Corona will be followed.

Apart from that the number of tickets has been limited to control the crowd at Sugam Darshan and Mangala Aarti and arrangements have been made to stop VIP cars.
