As many as 40 mosques in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, will be covered with plastic sheets during the Holi festival to prevent attempts to disrupt communal harmony by throwing paint on mosque structures. A senior official informed about this.

In Shahjahanpur, 'Lat Saheb' is the main attraction in the procession on a buffalo cart on the day of Holi. The grief of the atrocities committed by the British on the Hindustanis through this procession is still expressed today. People kick the person sitting on the buffalo cart as a symbol of the British and express their indignation.

The official said that the mosque comes only on the roads where the procession of Lat Saheb leaves. Due to this, intensive security arrangements will be made in the city under the supervision of 225 magistrates to maintain law and order.

Shahjahanpur SP Sanjay Kumar said all the mosques along the procession route would be covered with plastic sheets from top to bottom to ensure that people do not throw paint or any other offensive object on the structure of the mosque and disturb communal affection.

"Some mosques have been covered and the rest will be covered before the Holika Dahan (March 28). The front of the mosque has been covered with hoardings and barricades have been put up on some of the roads leading to the procession route," Kumar said. It will be closed a day in advance so that no anti-social elements will disturb the procession.

Kumar said CCTV cameras have been installed on the procession route and drones will be used for crowd monitoring. Apart from that, preventive action has been taken against 200 people. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Ramsevak Dwivedi said 225 magistrates have been appointed to maintain law and order.

District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh and SP Anand on Wednesday held a meeting with Muslim clerics and sought their cooperation for the peaceful conclusion of the program.
