The country has heard the names of bigwigs who have parted ways with the Congress in the last few years, but the fact is that many other leaders have left the Congress and joined the BJP.

According to the Association of Democratic Reforms, between 2016 and 2020, about 170 MLAs in different states of the country have left the Congress. Against them, only 18 BJP MLAs have changed parties. TRS joined the party.

Five Lok Sabha members quit the BJP to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and seven Rajya Sabha MPs split with the Congress to contest the elections. During these four years, 10 of the 16 Rajya Sabha MPs joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The number of Congress MLAs who have left the party is very high and the government in Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Manipur lost due to MLAs changing seats.
