The people of the Muslim community will follow the tradition by saluting the biggest Mahashivaratri of Kashmiri Pandits living in the valleys of Kashmir affected by terrorism. Muslim families visit the homes of Kashmiri Pandits on Shivratri to greet them and follow the same tradition of brotherhood. Kashmiri Pandits, who have been suffering from displacement for more than three decades, follow all the traditions during Mahashivaratri.

In the midst of all this, even in the midst of terrorism, the Pandits who do not leave the valley celebrate the festival without any fear. Such participation of the people of the Muslim community in these circumstances is a testament to true Kashmirism. According to pundits, this tradition is still going on and that is the beauty of Kashmirism, humanity.

During Shivratri, Kashmiri Pandits worship Lord Bhairav and follow the tradition of offering him meat and fish. Special arrangements were made for fish by the region government. Apart from that traditional vegetarian sacrifices are also offered which have 5-6 types of vegetables. Prasad is taken at night after the pooja-arch.

There have also been a few changes in the centuries-old tradition. Earlier fresh water was brought to the village through kalash but now since they have to leave the village and live in the camp, tap water has to be used. Sacrifices are made in clay pots in the houses so that there is no shortage of compensation for the executioners of Lord Bholanath. The nut is present in the prasad because it has 4 tissues which give the impression of 4 Vedas.
