Corona effect: Fear of death of more than 8,000 children and women in India

(PTI) United Nations, Ta. 13
A worrying report from the United Nations said that the focus of the entire health sector in India was on preventing the epidemic due to the corona, which is likely to increase the mortality rate of children under five and pregnant women. By September the condition was still said to be serious.
A report by UNICEF, the World Health Organization and the UN Population Fund said that by September this year, India would still have an infant mortality rate of 3,000 per child and pregnant women. The focus of the health sector across the country is on preventing corona, which has had a serious impact on the service of other health sectors. Because of this, the treatment of children and pregnant women has not received the attention it deserves.
According to the report, the possibility of an increase in the mortality rate of children under five and pregnant women in India between October 2020 and September 2021 cannot be ruled out. The death toll of children and women in India-Bangladesh-Pakistan-Nepal-Afghanistan-Sri Lanka is likely to cross 6.5 lakh.
UN agencies have been advised to take appropriate steps in this direction in the coming months. The UN said that in view of India's population, it was necessary to take steps to ensure that there were no restrictions on the treatment of children under five and pregnant women in India.
