Congress leader and former MP in the UPA government Shashi Tharoor later apologized for making a comment on PM Modi.

"I just read the news headline and commented in a hurry," Tharoor said.

Here is the context in which Tharoor has apologized. PM Modi said in his speech during his visit to Bangladesh yesterday that a satyagraha was organized by Jana Sangh in 1971 for the independence of Bangladesh in which I participated and was arrested.

However, the issue was immediately raised on social media. Congress and opposition parties started mocking Modi's statement, including Tharoor.

"Our PM is also giving Bangladesh a taste of bogus news. Everyone knows who liberated Bangladesh," Tharoor said. Tharoor was referring to former PM Indira Gandhi.

However, in his speech, Modi even praised PM Indira Gandhi for her contribution to Bangladesh's independence.

"Sorry, I was wrong and I don't feel bad about admitting it," Tharoor retweeted.
