Last year, Mumbai was plunged into darkness for hours. This was the worst case of power failure in the last few decades. Now, however, a New York Times report claims that when there was tension on the border between the Indian and Chinese armies, a virus was being injected into the control system of the power grid that supplies power to India.
The report quoted the cyberspace company as saying that although most of the viruses were not active in the system, it is possible that a small portion of the virus caused a power failure in Mumbai. However the cyberspace company could not manually check the code due to some restrictions. The company has also informed Indian officials about the matter.
It is believed that a Chinese cyber group called Red Echo may be behind the attack. The cyber security company that unveiled the attack said that many advanced cyber techniques were used to sneak into the power system. However, despite all the suspicions, there is not enough evidence that a group called Red Echo was responsible for the attack. However, the Red Eco Group will continue to be tracked. The report quoted an official as saying that the server responsible for most of the attacks was in China. Attempts to carry out 1000 cyber attacks a day have been traced after a border clash between India and China.
It may be mentioned that on October 12 last year, the power supply in Mumbai was cut off from 10 am and the whole of Mumbai was cut off for hours.
