At least 17 people were killed and several others injured when an SUV carrying seven people collided with a truck in southern California on Tuesday, hospital officials said.
Judy Cruz, director of the emergency department at El Centro Regional Medical Center, said 14 people died on the spot and another died during treatment at the hospital. Officials believe an SUV full of eight people collided with a tractor trailer.
The tractor-trailer collided with an SUV as it passed by on State Highway 114 in El Centro, California, early this morning. The driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries. The driver said more than two dozen people were seated in the legally seven-person SUV. These people were probably illegal immigrants.
