Violence in the US Parliament: Senate gives clean chit to former President Trump

New delhi date. Sunday, February 14, 2021

Violence erupted on Jan. 6 on Capitol Hill, the U.S. House of Representatives. However, the US Senate has acquitted former President Trump of all charges of violence. After a four-day hearing against Trump, the 100-member Senate received 57 votes in favor of impeachment and 83 against. If 10 other members had voted against Trump, they would have been convicted.

Trump was accused of inciting supporters of violence in parliament. Interestingly, seven supporters of Trump's own Republican Party voted against Trump. However, the Democratic Party failed to get the required 67 votes to convict Trump. The Democratic Party has 50 members in the Senate.

Trump is the first US president to be tried twice under impeachment, but both times he has been acquitted.
