US strikes on Iranian-backed militia bases in Syria

- Reports that President Joe Biden approved the airstrikes

Washington, Ta. Friday, February 26, 2021

The U.S. carried out an air strike in Syria on Thursday. The two officials described the attack as a response to rocket attacks on US bases in Iraq. The United States has reportedly carried out airstrikes on Iranian-backed militia bases. According to a report, President Joe Biden approved the strike, but the Pentagon has not yet commented on the matter.

The airstrikes were in response to recent rocket attacks in Iraq. Notably, there have been several retaliatory U.S. military strikes in the last few years. Since the end of 2019, US forces have been carrying out large-scale attacks against the Hezbollah militia group in Iraq and Syria in response to rocket attacks.

"I am convinced that the locations that were attacked were being used by the attacking Shia terrorists," said Lloyd Austin, the US secretary of defense after the airstrikes.
