Some conditions must be met

According to Arab News, women must meet age and height criteria to join the army. Only women who have completed schooling can apply. Women who marry foreign men should not be included in the army. Women have to pass the admission process and if they have any criminal record, the application will be canceled.

Hathlaul was sentenced

The Saudi government first announced plans to recruit women into the army in 2019. A year earlier, in 2018, the government had given women the right to drive. However, activist Lujain al-Hatlaul, who campaigned for the right, was sentenced to six years in prison.
