In the year 2020, there were many earthquakes in the country, last year, from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020, 965 earthquakes were felt in India. That is, earthquakes were felt about three times a day. The country's Minister of Science, Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harshvardhan answered this question in the Lok Sabha on 5 February.

According to figures provided to the Ministry of Earth Sciences by the National Center of Seismology, a total of 965 earthquakes were felt in the country last year, 13 of which were in Delhi-NCR. The magnitude of all these shocks was 3 or more.

According to media reports, there were two tremors of 6.0 magnitude last year while there were 25 tremors between 5.0 and 6.0 magnitude. 355 tremors between magnitude 4 and 5, 388 tremors between magnitude 3 and 4, and 108 tremors of magnitude 2 to 3 were felt in the country. The strongest tremor in India was on July 22 in the Shijang region of China. Its intensity was 6.4.

This is the reason

Geologists and seismologists around the world believe that the Earth's tectonic plates are slipping at this time. Which is why these shocks are being felt. The tremors were felt in large parts of the country. People were scared and in some places small and big damage was also seen. No casualties were reported, however.

Earthquakes are also often felt when gas or pressure formed between two tectonic plates is released. This condition is more common in summer. The Indian tectonic plate is sliding towards the Himalayan tectonic plate. It caused more shocks in the summer.
