A divorce case is being discussed on social media in China. The court's decision in this case has gone viral. Chen and Wang reportedly tied the knot in 2015. But last year, Chen filed for divorce from his wife. Although initially Wang did not want to get a divorce, he later decided to get one in exchange for compensation.

In her petition, she wrote that her husband had never helped her with housework in these five years so she should be compensated for working for Chen for 5 years.

The Beijing court ruled in Wang's favor, saying Chen would have to pay 2,000 yuan (about 22,000 rupees) for his monthly expenses. It is being said that this is the first decision of its kind in China which has caused a lot of discussion on social media sites.

It is worth mentioning that a new law is applicable in China under which in case of divorce, either the spouse can seek compensation from the other, if he has a greater share in the care of the child, care of the elders or help in his partner's work. Until now, such compensation could only be sought if such a legal agreement had been entered into before the marriage, although most people in China do not.
