- Cannot be sold expired food items in 3 months
New delhi date. Tuesday, February 9, 2021
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has cracked down on companies selling items online. Such companies will no longer be able to sell food items that expire within 3 months online. According to the FSSAI, it has banned all e-commerce companies from selling such food items.
The FSSAI told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 that e-commerce platforms do not produce food on their own. E-commerce companies that sell items online often sell food even though it is only a day away from expiring. In these circumstances customers are forced to use only one item in a day that is inappropriate. In view of all this, online sale of expired food items has been banned within a time limit of 3 months.
