The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the arrest of senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and other senior journalists, including journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, in connection with the violence at a farmers' tractor rally on January 26.

FIRs were registered against Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor and six journalists in five states on charges of violence during a farmers' tractor rally in Delhi on Republic Day and misleading tweets in connection with the death of a protester. The case was registered in Gurgaon, Bengaluru and Noida. Earlier 4 such cases were also filed in different districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Most of these figures have been charged with treason, intimidation, incitement to disturb public peace, criminal conspiracy, and insulting religious sentiments.

A complaint has been lodged in the Delhi High Court on the basis of a complaint lodged by Central Government counsel Chiranjeev Kumar. In his complaint, the complainant alleged that the accused had spread false news about the death of Navreet Singh, a protester in Delhi on January 26.
