Controversy over resolution for Kashmir in New York Assembly

New York, Ta. Sunday, February 7, 2021

India has protested aggressively against the passage of a resolution on Kashmir by the New York State Assembly, saying it was interfering in India's internal affairs. The resolution is also being seen as a conspiracy to divide Kashmiris.

The resolution, passed in the New York State Assembly, was seconded by Assembly member Nader Sayegh and 12 other members. The resolution took Kashmiri citizens into consideration and said that the Kashmiri community in New York has a great contribution to make.

In the midst of this situation, New York has always been at the forefront of protecting human rights, including religious freedom. While India strongly criticized the resolution, saying that Kashmir is part of India, it is a conspiracy to divide Kashmiris on the basis of religion and different provinces by passing such a resolution, which we oppose.

An official from India's Embassy in Washington said in a statement that India, like the United States, is a democracy. We have noticed that a resolution called Kashmir America Day has been passed in the New York Assembly. Which we oppose as such a resolution is a conspiracy to divide the Kashmiris into their culture.
