China became India's top trade partner even amid boycott China's announcement

Beijing Ta. 23. Tuesday, February, 2021

Following the ongoing border tensions, a boycott of Chinese products was announced in India. Since then, the Indian government has also launched a self-reliant India campaign.

However, in the midst of all this, the reality is that China is still India's number one trade partner. India's dependence on China for imports does not seem to have diminished.

According to media reports, bilateral trade between India and China stood at 77 77.7 billion last year.

On the other hand, trade between the US and India reached .9 75.9 billion in 2020.

However, the Indian government has banned a number of Chinese mobile apps to reduce its dependence on China following rising tensions on the border with China. The process of approving China's investment proposals has also been slowed down.

However, India is still heavily dependent on China for heavy machinery, telecom equipment and home appliances. For the same reason, India's trade deficit with China has been 40 billion. Compared to that, India's exports are very low.
