A giant iceberg twice the size of Mumbai broke out of Antarctica

After 10 years of hard work, scientists have discovered a huge crack in the ice-covered Antarctica. The crack has caused a giant iceberg to fall off Antarctica's ice shelf, twice the size of Mumbai.

The incident occurred after a huge crack fell on an ice shelf in November 2020. On Friday morning, the iceberg was completely separated from the ice shelf in Antarctica.

The cracks have been dubbed the North Rift. Researchers at the British Antarctic Survey had previously thought the area would be loosened.

"We knew this was going to happen and we were ready for it. In the coming weeks or months, this iceberg could move away from or around Antarctica," the researchers said.

An iceberg has recently fallen off the Antarctic ice shelf and a gap of several meters has been created between the two. However, evidence of climate change has not yet been found.
