US Trade Representative Robert Lightheiser unveiled the Notorious List, which lists a total of six online platforms around the world. Apart from that, 6 markets of the world were also considered as promoters of sale of counterfeit goods. According to the US, these places do not comply with the Intellectual Property Act and counterfeit goods are sold without any restrictions.
The list also included Snapdeal, an Indian online platform. Apart from that, four famous shopping complexes of India were also included in this notorious list. Among them were Delhi's Palika Bazar and Tank Road, Mumbai's Hirapanna and Kolkata's Kidderpore Market. The list of the market for counterfeit goods was officially released by the American Trade Representative's office in 2020.
The US Trade Representative strongly criticized the proliferation of counterfeit goods in the name of branded goods in online platforms and advised that appropriate action should be taken against such platforms.
