Trust the government, not the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court had decided two months ago: Rakesh Tikait

New Delhi Dated 15th January 2021 Friday

"I trust the government, not the Supreme Court," said farmer leader Rakesh Tikait. The committee formed by the Supreme Court on the new agricultural law had taken its decision two and a half months ago.

"I do not trust the committee of four agricultural experts constituted by the Supreme Court, I trust the government," said Tikait, one of the leaders of thousands of farmers who have been protesting on the Delhi border for the last 50 days over the new agricultural law.

"Make the minimum price of support a law, repeal the three existing laws and implement the Swaminathan report, nothing less consumes us," Tikait said.

Speaking to reporters, Tikait said the laws were made by the government, not the Supreme Court. So we trust the government, not the Supreme Court committee. The committee had decided two and a half months ago that the law was right. We are not going to go to the committee or talk to them. Our conversation is with the government, not with the committee. Any law is made by the government. So only direct communication with the government can take place.

Meanwhile, Bhupinder Singh Mane, a member of the four-member committee of agricultural experts constituted by the Supreme Court and leader of the Indian Farmers' Union, resigned from the four-member committee on Thursday.

For the last fifty days, thousands of farmers have been setting up tents in various border areas of Delhi. Earlier, he had threatened to hold a tractor rally on Republic Day. However, it was later revealed that they would not hold such a rally on Republic Day.
