New Delhi, dated 6 January 2021, Wednesday

The apex court has so far refused to impose a ban on the Love Jihad Act and at the same time the court has sent notices to the governments of UP as well as Uttarakhand seeking a reply within four weeks.

A lawyer has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the Love Jihad Act enacted by different states. In this regard, the apex court today said that a similar demand has been made before the UP and Uttarakhand High Courts. In these circumstances, the Supreme Court cannot present a decision on the issue at present. However, the court said, "We will consider the matter after the High Court first looks into the matter."

According to the lawyer of the petitioner, people are being harassed due to the law of love jihad. Every day there are reports of people being picked up from marriage.

It is to be mentioned that this law was first implemented in UP. In more than a month, there have been 14 cases under the Love Jihad Act in UP and in 13 of these cases, attempts have been made to force Hindu girls to convert. Instead his relatives have complained.
