Srinagar, Ta. 31. Sunday 2021 January

The effects of the ongoing cold wave in the hilly areas of North India and the Himalayas are being felt as far as Gujarat.

In Kashmir, on the other hand, the cold snap in Srinagar has broken a 30-year-old record. On Saturday night, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 8.8 degrees Celsius, the lowest since 1991. As it happens, the temperature is recorded at minus 8.8 degrees or less.

Kashmir has received a number of snowfalls in December and January this year. According to the meteorological department, light snowfall is expected between January 31 and February 1.

Due to the severe cold, the water in the water pipelines has frozen and the reservoirs have also frozen. The temperature is likely to remain below zero for the next few days. However, crowds of tourists are flocking to enjoy the snowfall.
