New Delhi Dated 21st January 2021 Thursday

The women of Ujjawala Home in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, alleged that the employees of the NGO Shiv Mangal Shikshan Samiti, which runs the organization, were raping us.

There were shocking reports of women being held captive and raped in this shelter home. A 20-year-old woman told the media that when I asked for permission to meet my daughter, they beat me and sexually assaulted me.

A total of three women, including this woman, alleged that Shiv Mangal Education Committee employees sexually abused us and even beat us. The women alleged that committee members were operating a sex racket.

The empowerment and protection of women was planned by the celebrated Ministry of Women and Child Development by the Central Government. Under this scheme, Shiv Mangal Education Committee received a grant of Rs. 14.5 lakh in 2019-20. The women also alleged that when the concerned women and their families approached the police, they were threatened and mistreated by the Education Committee officials. Interestingly, the police did not even take steps to get the women medically examined. However, the woman told the media that the first information report was written.

On Wednesday, the relatives of the women handed over a statement to Bilaspur Range Inspector General of Police Ratanlal Dangi detailing the sexual misconduct committed by the employees of Ujjawala Home. A police spokesman said the women's statement before a magistrate would be recorded on Thursday.
