Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu outraged by NIA summons, says agency is working at government's behest

Chandigarh / New Delhi, Ta. 17 January 2021, Sunday

The National Investigation Agency has summoned more than a dozen people for questioning in the Sikh for Justice case. It also includes the name of Punjabi actor Deep Singh Sidhu.

Punjabi actor Deep Singh Sidhu and his brother Mandeep have been summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to Delhi for questioning. Deep Sidhu is associated with the peasant movement and is supporting the protesting farmers.

Deep Singh Sidhu, who was summoned by the NIA, said that the NIA was acting at the behest of the central government. The NIA had sent summons to Deep on Saturday, earlier calling his brother Mandeep for questioning.

Deepsinh Sidhu has said that he has nothing to do with any organization called Sikh for Justice. He said the central government was threatening the people who were supporting the farmers by sending summonses through the NIA. It may be recalled that during the last Lok Sabha elections, Deepsi had campaigned in support of BJP candidate Sani Deol. The NIA has summoned about 20 people to Delhi for questioning.

Deep Singh Sidhu said that he was not surprised to see the summons. The government is making all possible efforts to intimidate the protesters, I do not mind such a notice. I have nothing to do with Sikhs for Justice. There is no reason for me to be in touch with those people. I don't even know who those people are.

It may be recalled that Baldev Singh Sirsa, president of Lok Bhalai Insaf Welfare Society, who was involved in the NIA farmers' demonstration on Saturday, was summoned for questioning. Baldev Singh Sirsa will also be questioned in a case filed against Sikhs for Justice. Sirsa has also been asked to appear at the NIA headquarters on January 17.
