High alert in Punjab and Haryana after tractor parade turns violent, internet shut down in three districts

Violence erupted during a farmers' tractor rally in Delhi today. Some farmers and policemen were also injured in the incident. A group of farmers went to the Red Fort and hoisted their flag. The Punjab and Haryana governments have issued a high alert in the wake of the violence in the national capital.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has issued an alert. He has ordered the state police chief to maintain law and order. He also appealed to the peasant agitators to return to the Delhi border.

So Haryana Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar also called a meeting. Haryana Police then issued a statement saying that high alert orders have been issued to all district SPOs following the violence during the tractor march in Delhi. Internet and SMS services have been shut down in Sonipat, Palwal and Jhajjar districts of Haryana.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has condemned the incident. He said in a tweet that shocking incidents have taken place in Delhi. Violence by some elements is unacceptable. Such violence will harm the peasant movement.
