The Parliamentary Advisory Committee on Saturday received reports of a heated argument between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

The two clashed over ongoing tensions between India and China. During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi questioned the Modi government's foreign policy, according to an English newspaper report. According to the report, after giving an hour-long presentation by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Rahul Gandhi said that instead of such a tired presentation, the government should state what kind of concrete strategy has been devised to deal with China.

In response, Jaishankar said that in today's world where there is more than one polarization, there is no single option. Rahul Gandhi then asked Jaishankar, "Do you have a strategy that you can summarize in three sentences? China is bypassing India and connecting with Europe and the Middle East through another route and what is India doing to counter China?" ...

"China is dividing the world in two," Jaishankar said at the meeting. You cannot ignore the way Russia and Japan are emerging as powerful.

"There is no end to this discussion, because both sides have their own logic. In the last six years, India has also strengthened ties with the Gulf countries, which the UPA government could not do," Jaishankar said.
